PAUL ANTHONY
Senior Production Coordinator
Ministry of Social Communications •
Cahayasuara Communications Centre • Archdiocese of KL

Paul was 18 when he joined the Catholic Communications Centre in 1977 as a production assistant. Though a freshie then, he was very keen and enthusiastic in learning the new and special field of audiovisuals. At a time when young men were looking for 'good jobs', Paul felt attracted to 'Church' work Ð and has faithfully stuck on for 25 years.

With his initial hands-on experience with audiovisuals and photography, he was sent to the East Asian Pastoral Institute (EAPI) in the Philippines in 1979 for a six-week course on Audiovisuals and Evangelisation.

On his return, he assisted in the production of audiovisual programmes and training programmes for parish groups and NGOs. He was directly involved in the production of Suvai Thuli, a weekly Tamil radio programme (dramatising the Old Testament) for broadcast on Radio Veritas in the Philippines.

It was during the recording of the Suvai Thuli programmes that he met Lucia, who was one of the voice talents. Paul and Lucia were married in 1981 and they have 3 children.

Paul was instrumental in developing the Malaysian version of Photolanguage, which is an effective group media method.

In 1984, he became Production Coordinator and handled all aspects of production at Cahayasuara. The following year, he attended a television production course in Taiwan. This training enabled him to produce video programmes for the Archdiocese of KL.

Paul has played a pivotal role in the development of Cahayasuara and its programming priorities. He was also responsible for the production of thematic programmes for parishes, especially for Easter and Christmas. He was the anchorperson for the production of Tamil Christian audiocassettes recorded with local artistes.

In 1996, Paul earned a Diploma in Audio Engineering Ð and was appointed Senior Production Coordinator by Archbishop Soter Fernandez.

Paul has been a member of several national and Archdiocesan bodies, such as the Tamil Apostolate and Komisi Bahasa Malaysia. In these capacities, he has been instrumental in organizing training programmes for various sectors, including successful Gospel concerts in Tamil.

On the international level, Paul has participated in several OCIC-Unda Asia meetings, including the World Congress in Bangkok in 1990.In recognition of his seniority and experience, he was selected as a resource person for communication training for the Church in Myanmar for the past two years.

PRESS RELEASE
13 Jan 2003
Archbishop Anthony Soter Fernandez, DD

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei agree with the Holy See and Bishops from the U.S.A. and Middle East that resorting to war against Iraq under current circumstances would not meet the strict conditions in Catholic teaching for over-riding the presumptions against the use of military force. We also join others in urging Iraq to comply fully with the latest United Nations Security Councils resolutions.

We urge others Bishops' Conferences all over the world to join their voices in solidarity to call upon all involved to abide by the principles of international law.

We join and urge peoples of all faiths and goodwill to pray fervently that all involved will act to ensure that this action of the United Nations will not simply be a prelude to war but a way to peace and justice.

Archbishop Anthony Soter Fernandez, D.D.
President

PAPAL MESSAGE
World Communications Day 2003

"Media at the Service of Authentic Peace"
Papal Message for World Communications Day 2003
VATICAN CITY, JAN. 24, 2003 (Zenit.org).- Here is John Paul II's message for the 37th World Communications Day, which will be observed on June 1 with the theme: "The Communications Media at the Service of Authentic Peace in the Light of 'Pacem in Terris.'"

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

1. In the dark days of the Cold War, Blessed Pope John XXIII's Encyclical Letter "Pacem in terris" came as a beacon of hope to men and women of good will. Declaring that authentic peace requires "diligent observance of the divinely established order" ("Pacem in terris," 1), the Holy Father pointed to truth, justice, charity and freedom as the pillars of a peaceful society (ibid., 37)....
