BECs EFFECTIVE AGENTS OF RENEWAL

KUALA LUMPUR : Making BECs a celebrating community means celebrating life, love, hope, confidence and our reunion with God. It also means being a praying community, a community that meditates and reflects on the word of God; and a missionary community sent to bring the Good News. This was the emphasis made by Fr. Moses Lui who was facilitating a three-evening programme titled Living Communion in Today's Church, at the Chapel of Kristus Aman from July 21 to 23.The programme was designed to promote BECs and strengthen bonds. "In building a 'community of lively faith', we need to be creative, big-hearted and become 'that sacrament, that convinced believer who goes forth to create the human ties that create human community” said Fr. Lui. He added, "Our commission is to build community; without community there is no salvation, no self, no real freedom”. (HERALD)

CHALLENGES OF A CATHOLIC LAWYER

GENTING HIGHLANDS : Can a Catholic be a lawyer? This was the question members of the Catholic Lawyers Society asked at their annual retreat held from July 8 to 12. Lawyers have been caught in situations where they were asked to file cases of applications just to collect more fees; they have also been asked to commit acts against their conscience with offers of attractive fees. This has led to a crisis of conscience. Practising law has becomes a burden for the conscientious Catholic lawyer. Fr. Peter Kim, the Retreat master, spoke about St. Thomas Moore the patron saint for lawyers. He urged the participants to use St. Thomas as their model. St. Thomas was a shining example of a Catholic lawyer in action, leading a life of harmony in faith and action. Though St. Thomas was a faithful and loyal servant of the king, God was always first for him. (HERALD)
