First solemn profession at new Carmelite Monastery
SEREMBAN: The newly built the Carmelite Monastery of the Carmel of Jesus, Mary and Joseph in Rasah was an `open house' as Sr Patricia of the Immaculate Conception made her solemn final profession. Sr Patricia of the Immaculate Conception fondly remembered as Patricia Ng Poh Neo Muar in Johor. She had chosen the Marian month of October for the final profession because of her tremendous attachment and dedication to Mary the Mother of God. It was an awesome and captivating ceremony coupled with the celebration of the Eucharist presided by His Grace Most Reverend Datuk Murphy Pakiam the Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur. In his homily, the Archbishop touched extensively on the paramount importance of relationship. The end of the Eucharistic celebration saw the now fully fledged Carmelite Sr Patricia of the Immaculate Conception meeting with her family members receiving their greetings and the greetings of the congregation. - Posted by Herald

Emmaus Centre celebrates 20th anniversary
PETALING JAYA: The Emmaus Centre recently celebrated its twentieth anniversary. From its humble beginnings with a handful of counsellors, Emmaus Centre has today a complement of 28 volunteer counsellors, and has assisted in training even more. The imperative for Emmaus Centre as it its third decade is to carry on the work and maintain the same level of commitment and professionalism of the pioneer counsellors. A concelebrated Mass was held on Sept 29 in conjunction with this celebration. Fr Albert Tan SJ together with parish priest, Fr Simon Yong SJ were the celebrants. Fourteen new counsellors, after successfully completing three years of for¬mation were commissioned while 28 serving counsellors renewed their oaths to serve at the Emmaus Centre. Archbishop Murphy Pakiam later joined the counsellors at a dinner to celebrate the occasion. Also present were past counsellors and friends and the family of the counsellors. - Posted by Herald

St Ignatius Church to be air conditioned
PETALING JAYA: The St.Ignatius Church Plaza here is currently under- going two major projects, estimated at RM500,000.00 that will vastly improve the existing conditions for the betterment of the parishioners. Civil works for the air-conditioning of the building has already commenced. Workers were seen working to plaster both sides of the building to enclose it. A new two-storey building would be erected at the covered car-park area of the existing priests residence, to in become the new Parish Secretariat to serve parish¬ioners better. Presently the parish office operates in a small area adjacent of the main entrance of the church building. Parishioners have expressed their satisfaction to the projects as these would improve their conditions for worship as the noise pollution from the traffic is always distracting, especial¬ly so when the church is locat¬ed facing the busy LDP high¬ way, just a few metres away. - Posted by Herald

Two priorities for Holy Family Church
KAJANG: Strengthening BECs by building relationships and building word-rooted communities are the pastoral priorities for Holy Family Church for the year 2008. This was decided during the annual Pastoral Assembly held on Oct 7. In his keynote address, parish priest Fr William Michael, accompanied by his assistant, Fr George Harrison, looked back at the progress and weakness of the pastoral focus of the year passed. `Have we been faithful disciples of the Lord?' Fr William asked. Different language groups met simultaneously to listen to the strengths and weaknesses of the Basic Option of build¬ing Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs). To achieve the first priority, these actions were suggested: (i) Regular visits to BECs by parish priests with BECAT/BECCOT steering committee members, (ii) Formation on the understanding of the role of Zone Committees / BEC ACTs, (iii) Ongoing formation on leadership skills (iv) Regular Word- sharing in BECs". - Posted by Herald

Hear and keep the World of God as Mary did
KUALA LUMPUR: "I'm the hand-maid of the Lord, said Mary although her life was filled with sorrows - dif-ficulties, darkness and sufferings, yet Mary still had the will and strength to say I'm the handmaid of the Lord." This was disclosed by Fr Charles Chin in his homily at the parish feastday triduum of the Church of the Holy Rosary (HRC) in Brickfields, that culminated on Oct 6, with the theme Deepening Our Discipleship, with Mother Mary As Our Model. Fr Chin who presided at the Mass with HRC parish priest, Msgr Daniel Lim and Fr Matthias Ki concelebrating; said many of us can spend four to five hours per day glued to the TV, but when asked to read the Bible, we give lame excuses such as, `no time'. Msgr Lim in his speech thanked everyone for making the parish feast day triduum celebrations a success. He also thanked the presence of the two preachers - Fr Patrick Boudville from Church of the Good Shepherd and Fr Charles Chin for their interesting and valuable homilies. - Posted by Herald
