PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH.

To you, O Blessed Joseph, we have recourse in our tribulations, and while imploring the aid of your most holy spouse, we confidently invoke you patronage also. By that love which united you to the immaculate Virgin Mother of God and by the fatherly affection with which you embraced the infant Jesus we humbly beseech you graciously to regard the inheritance which Jesus Christ purchased by His blood, and to help is in our necessities by your powerful intercession. Protect O most provident guardian of the Holy Family, the chosen children of Jesus Christ; ward off from us, O most loving Father, all taint of error and corruption; graciously assist us from heaven, O most powerful protector, in our struggle with the powers of darkness; and as you once rescued the child Jesus from imminent peril to his life, so now defend the holy church of God from the snares of her enemies and from all adversity. Shield each one of us with your unceasing patronage, that imitating your example, and supported by your aid, we may be enabled to live a good life, die a holy death, and secure everlasting happiness in heaven. NOVENA-PRAYER TO ST ANTHONY

O Glorious St Anthony Charitable Protector of all who call upon Thee, with filial trust I cast myself on Thy mercy. Look upon the misery that oppresses me, and by thy intercession appease the anger of God, whom I have offended by my sins. Deliver me from the affliction that I may serve Him with a mind of peace. At the same time should this suffering be expedient for my salvation. I desire to be resigned asking Thee to obtain for me constant patience and entire conformity to the will of Him Who. For love of us being Himself innocent gave satisfaction for the guilty. DAILY OFFERING TO ST ANTHONY O glorious St Anthony I choose Thee for my special Patron this day and all the days of my life. Design to place me amoungst Thy chosen servants. During the whole life Thou were distinguished for Thy singular love for Mary and Thy Ardent zeal for Her prerogative. Prau for me that I too may be animated with a genuine love and devition to our Immaculate Mother. And do Thou, whost intimate love for Jesus merited for Thee the privilage of beholding and carressing Him in His tender infant form, plead with Him, that I may be truly One with Jesus in time and in eternity. Offering of the Novena

Lord Jesus Christ who when on earth didst "with a strong cry and tears" offer up prayers and supplications to Thy Father (Heb. V.7) received the offering of this novena, during which I desire to join my prayers to Thine in making intercession for the intentions of the benefactors of this shrine clients who have sent us their petitions and for my spirtual and temporal needs, particularly (here mention your special intention) I make my offering through Mary, Thy cousin for he is the Helper in Difficult Cases. For their sake accept my prayer and render it fruitful for the souls Thou didst die to save. - Amen.

I O Glorious Apostle St. Jude Thaddeus, Patron of Hopeless Cases who chosen by God to give testimony of the true Faith suffered all kinds of tortures and in the end, gave your life and blood rather than deny it, obtain for us a similar Faith and, like you, to be ever ready and glad to confess it at any time and on every occasion and to be ready to die rather than to deny it. Encourage us dear Saint to mortify our rebellious flesh by penance so that, dying to the world and to ourselves we may live in God alone, and gain merits for eternity.

II O Glorious Apostle St. Jude Thaddeus, cousin of our Saviour by that admirable courage with which you sacrificed your life sooner than fail in fidelity to your religion, Faith and God : obtain for us the grace to be always ready to suffer any torments rather than violate the law of God and the dictates of our conscience and help us so to live as to merit a share of glory in the kingdom of the just.

God who through Thy blessed apostle Jude, hast brought us unto the knowledge of Thy Name; grant us both to celebrate his eternal glory by making progress in virtue, and by celebrating his glory advance in virtue. Through our lord Jesus Christ. - Amen.

A novena is a devotion performed for cutive periods : To make a novena properly one should go to confession and receive Holy Communion. One should also have great confidence in the intercession of the Saint in whose honour the novena is made.

Prayer in Trials.

To be said in great afflication, or when one seems to be deprived of all visible help and cases despaired of.

St. Jude, Glorious Apostle, faithful servant and friend of Jesus the name of the traitor who delivered thy beloved Master into the bands of His enemies has caused thee to be forgotten by name but the church honours and invokes thee universally as the patron of hopeless cases of things despaired of. Pray for me who am so miserable : make use. I implore thee of that particular privilege accorded to thee to bring visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolations and succour of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, particularly ....... (here mentioned your request) and that I may bless God with thee and all the elect throughout eternity.

I promise thee, O blessed Jude, to be ever mindfull of this great favour, and I will never cease to honour thee as my special and powerful patron and to do all in my power to encourage devotion to thee. - Amen.

Prayer in Grievous Affliction

St. Jude Thaddeus thou relative of Jesus Christ, thou glorious apostle and martyr, renowned for thy virtues and miracles, faithful and prompt intercessor of all who honour thee and trust in thee! Thou are a powerful patron and helper in grievous afflictions, I come to thee and entreat thee from the depth of my heart, come to my aid with thy powerful intercession for thou hast received from God the privilege to assist with thy manifest help, those who almost despair of all hope. Look down upon me; my life is a life of crosses, my days are days of tribulations and my heart is an ocean of bitterness.

All my paths re strewn with thorns and scarcely one moment passes but is witness of my tears and sighs. And withal, my soul is enveloped in darkness; disquietude, discouragement, mistrust, yes, sometimes even a kind of despair preys upon my soul. Divine providence seems lost to my sight and faith seems to falter in my heart. Overwhelmed by these thoughts I see myself surrounded by dark cloud. Thou canst not forsake me in this sad plight. I will not depart from thee until thou has heard me. Oh! Hasten to my aid. I will be grateful to thee all my life. I will honour thee as my special patron. I will thank God for the graces bestowed upon thee, and will propagate thy honour according to my power. - Amen.

Praise and Thanksgiving

It was revealed to St. Gertrude that it is a source of great joy to the saints when we praise and thank God for the graces and privileges He has bestowed upon them.. Clients of St. Jude should recite the following act of thanksgiving frequently.

Most sweet Lord Jesus Christ in union with the unutterable heavenly praise with which the Most Holy Trinity extols Itself and which thence flows upon Thy Sacred Humanity, upon Mary, upon all the angels and saints. I praise glorify and bless The for all the graces and privileges Thou has bestowed upon Thy chosen apostle and intimate friend Jude Thaddeus. I pray Thee for the sake of his merits, grant me Thy grace, and through his intercession come to my aid in all my need, but especially at the hour of my death deign to strengthen me against the rage of enemies. - Amen.

In great affliction one may promise the apostle in case he will help, to distribute a certain towards the erection of his Shrine in Thanks in thanksgiving. This means of spreading devotion to him in an effective way to obtaining his help.
