A long time before the church of St. Joseph was built, the Holy Spirit was present among the Indian migrants who settled in the small shanty town of Sentul inspired by the Holy Spirit, these Indian Catholics who worked in the biggest railway depot in the country,gathered in a small chapel dedicated to St. Anne along Jalan Ipoh. With the assistance of the workers, the missionaries who catered to their spiritual needs built the present church in Jalan Sentul. In this new Church, the workers celebrated the Eucharist which is the source and summit of Christian life.

We remember God's presence, His providence and guidance in their lives. Today, we rejoice and we live the same faith in a community spirit. The cross was their symbol which made them faithful to the crucified Christ. The fire which made them have a sense of belonging despite challenges and struggles they encountered in the course of history, continues in our lives in the present.

In the recent times, amidst massive developments in Sentul, our sense of belonging being experienced in the one parish is reflected in the community living in our own respective Basic Ecclesial Communities.

Against this backdrop of development and the challenges of the 21st century, this church stands tall ,giving testimony to the vision of a present era: A united and caring community deeply rooted in the Word of God.
